Creating a Buzz:
Here are a few ways that Doherty plans to garner school spirit for our competition:
1. Have teachers show the film Akeelah and the Bee on a Friday afternoon.
2. Host a Teacher Bee for the entire school to enjoy.
3. Promote our spelling bee at other events such as high school basketball games or open houses.
4. Invite our students to design their own Doherty Invitational Spelling Bee to post around the school.
5. Encourage students to wear black and yellow the day of the spelling bee.
About the World Lists:
The word lists provided on this website are separated by grade level. While each grade level's word list features fifty grade-level words, and 50 advanced grade-level words, all words on the list are considered challenging. These words should NOT be confused with the "No-Excuse" grade-level word lists provided by programs such as Rebecca Sitton Spelling, or Words Their Way. These word lists are part of the Scripps National Spelling Bee sponsorship program, found at SpellingBee.com, and were not created by Doherty Elementary School, West Bloomfield School District, or any of its affiliates.
